UCLA Student Media:
Pacific Ties Newsmagazine
Pacific Ties is UCLA’s Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Newsmagazine. It is one of the many diverse magazines all under UCLA Student Media. Magazines are created every quarter with a team of student editors, writers, and designers. There are a range of UCLA magazines like the LGBTQ community, African American, Muslim, and even Feminist print issues.
Adobe Creative Cloud
Illustrator
All the graphics in the spreads were created using Adobe Illustrator as vector art. I was able to work with the authors to create artwork that we both thought would match the writing piece the most.
Photoshop
The added effects and small details were all done in Adobe Photoshop. I was able to create the glitch effect for the cover of the magazine and some of the pages through the features provided in photoshop.
InDesign
All the page’s layout and wireframe design were all set up in Adobe InDesign. I placed the text and played around with the layout until all the pieces fit together to create a visually appealing writing piece.
After Effects
The social media content and advertising were created through using Adobe After Effects. I animated one of the promotions for the Spring 2020 issue through the program to match the theme.
Cover & Back Page Design
I contributed to the production of the Spring 2020 Issue’s cover and back page based on the theme Glitch. As a team, we collaborated by creating the drawings based on pictures of UCLA students taken by our photographers and having a background glitch effect layered with a variety of ways to say “Glitch” in different languages from the APIDA Community.
