About
The club is run by UCLA students who spend a year planning the event by reaching out to sponsors and inviting experienced speakers from big tech companies like Google to speak at the event and inspire young students from all around.
As a member of the design team, I help create all types of social media posts that go onto Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, promotional packets, and merchandise for the event. Through this experience, I was able to build on my teamwork and communication, while also developing my design skills further. I absolutely loved being part of the inclusive exploretech.la students and working alongside the amazing design team members.
T-Shirt & Merchandise Design
With the exploretech’s Design Team we created an explore box with all the free merchandise that we would have normally offered during the event held in UCLA’s Ackerman Ballroom. For the t-shirts, I designed the Staff Shirts that all the exploretech members would wear and we also designed volunteer shirts for anyone who signed up to help out.

Within the exploretech.box, we included a variety of items relating to coding and the current situation, which meant we designed COVID-friendly masks with the exploretech logo and much more. The outer box print was designed by our team and we even included exploretech stickers and brochures inside with more information about what the club does for the STEM community.
Meet the Staff Posts
For the exploretech.la’s Instagram, we decided on a theme Avatar: The Last Airbender, and created “Meet the Staff” posts for all the different teams on board in the club. I designed the Earth bender team posts for the Operations Team. We posted the series for each team with the theme as a way to introduce everyone and get people excited for coming to the event!
Sponsorship Tier Package
Sponsors
Exploretech.la has sponsors from all over including Walt Disney Company, Northrop Grumman, Capcom, Yubico, and more. In order to reach out to these companies, the design team created a Sponsorship tier package that included all the perks of supporting our club. It included a lot of promotions and we send them all the creative content and merchandise that we make.
Facebook Profiles & Covers
As the event date came closer, the design team started to create Facebook profile reposts with added filters to promote the exploretech event. We even designed the Facebook cover photos for all the team members to add that change into their profiles.
Event Zoom Background
With the nature of our event being virtual for the year because of COVID-19, we had to come up with a way to identify the staff members from the high school students attending the event. The design team decided to create a variety of Zoom backgrounds for each team in exploretech and for the events hosted throughout the day like “College Buddy Chat” and the different specific workshops.
LinkedIn Infographic
I worked on a LinkedIn infographic for exploretech and for the content, I communicated with the other teams to create a style that we all agreed upon. It includes the information on it that we wanted the viewers to take in with the different social media platforms, COVID-19 adjustments, exploretech.box, and how to get involved. With all the information on there, we were able to promote our sponsors as well from the previous design packages I contributed to with my team.
Instagram Posts & Critiques
I helped design some Instagram posts with the team and after each time we finished a design, the design team would get together and discuss what could be done better and what was good about it. From there, we are able to make the changes and always better our work by keeping it in check with different opinions coming from all our different design perspectives. I loved working with the exploretech.la team and I was able to build so many of my design skills to communication skills with my wonderful team members.
